Relax and spend some time in the friendly town of Williams, Arizona. Take in the fresh mountain air and enjoy the sights of Route 66, the Grand Canyon Railway, Planes of Fame, the new Kadampa world peace temple, and an array of diners, restaurants and bars. Williams is a great base from which to explore the surrounding region. the Grand Canyon is easily accessible by either car or, more romantically, by the iconic Grand Canyon Railway. Catch the morning Wild West gunfight before the train departs. if you're not catching the train then afterwards pop into the excellent cafe and gift shop at the station. Williams was the last town on Route 66 to be bypassed by the Interstate. Happily this did not stop the town offering the passing traveller a variety of interesting shops in the historic downtown as well as a host of places to grab a bite. Some Route 66 towns can look a little past their prime, but not Williams. There's still a buzzing community here and the town warrants an extended stay. I stayed at the Sheridan Inn. What can I say?
