Now that you've packed your bags, and you're all ready for your trip, you're probably wondering what you need to do to use your device while traveling. You can continue to browse, email, tweet & post just as a you do at home. We know you’re excited about your trip. But before you leave, we recommend the following 3 tips: #1: Confirm that your wireless device will operate in the country you are visiting. To ensure the broadest coverage, a quad-band device that operates in 850/900/1800/1900 MHX is recommended. To roam in Japan or South Korea, a 3G device that operates at 2100 MHz is required. Use the wireless travel guide to look up wireless devices, international carrier information, and help determine the best device to use on your trip. In most countries, you should dial a local number as if you were calling it from the United States by using the plus key, followed by the country code & the number. Since each country’s dialing patterns may vary, you may wish to research this before you travel. Narrated: An Example of a dialing pattern for calling the United States would be +1 followed by the 10 digit number: ---- displayed text: +1 (123)(456-7890) Narrated: A sample dialing pattern for calling the UK would be +44 followed by the area code and number: ---- displayed text: +44 (0) 000 000 0000 •on most GSM phones the "+" sign will appear on your screen if you press and hold down the 0 key . To send an international text message, dial the plus sign followed by the country code and local number. ---- displayed text: EXAMPLE +44 1234567890 When you've activated international roaming service and arrived at your overseas destination, simply turn your device on; it will automatically search for a wireless network. Registration usually occurs within 30-40 seconds. When the name or network number of the local operator is displayed, your device should be ready to use.
