'Jeff Cavaliere is the \"OG\" of the fitness world, with an astounding 9.5 million subscribers to his channel. He gets about a million views per day on his videos and is known for his creative and unique approach to exercise selection. Here we delve into his YouTube channel and break it down bit by bit, step by step. Thanks to Curlean-X for footage+background info https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC87I9oEAjmDQujnDtyjUX2Q Check his channel out for a TON of more examples of quackery. **Headphone users, sound gets a bit loud at 3:00** Content (1:30) 52/60 Jeff\'s content is mixed. At times, he does show substantial knowledge of human anatomy, but at other times his programming recommendations do not fall anywhere near in line with what the leading minds in the field and what the research shows. For example, Jeff took \"German Volume Training\", which is one of the most brutal protocols of all time (10x10 w/1min rest at 60% 1RM) and decided to change it to 70-80% of 1RM. WHAT??? That\'s stupid, and pretty clear that he\'s either trolling or never has lifted seriously. Most calculators show that 80% of 1 rep max MIGHT be doable for a set of ~8 reps. http://www.weightrainer.net/mrcalc2.html SOME people might be able to get ONE SET of 10. But TEN SETS OF TEN WITH 1 MINUTE REST??? That, my friends, is credibility destroying. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7fICF_O5esc&feature=youtu.be https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q9dTRcMypNk Another list of terrible, stupid exercises (certainly not even the icing on top of the iceberg): -Standing leg curls....using your arm to curl your LEG?? -Karate chop 1 arm standing cable pullovers? -Bouncing deadlifts -Half rep, explosive bench presses -PUSHING AGAINST A DAMN WALL -1 arm kneeling cable crossovers -Pushups and squats on unstable surfaces (WHY?) -1 leg squats touching the ground side to side -Rotating curls on a stability ball (gotta confuse the hamstrings, right babe?) -1 arm rows with leg kicks -Lying on a stability ball doing a banded row with one arm and a bench press with the other. Just focus on the basics, Jeff! It might be boring, it might get less views, it might expose some weaknesses, but it\'s BETTER for your viewers. Prioritizing LOW REWARD circus tricks over the basics is, in my opinion, a betrayal of the gains of his followers. Same with saying that mobility, flexibility and stability are more important than strength. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/15233597/ He has a DUTY to provide GOOD information rather than POPULAR information. There is a difference. Furthermore, this information, at times, can be dangerous. I guarantee that he has gotten someone hurt (6:00). He does have some good exercises, some of which I have used in my training, my book, or with clients. BUT, this isn\'t enough to salvage the rest. Videos (9:40) Pretty basic. Simple. Fine. 7/10. Knowledge (10:05) 8/10 Obviously some major holes here, but he has worked with the Mets, and has a certification. Not that I put much stock in certs, I\'ve seen too many idiots with them! Marketing (10:42) 5/10 The king of clickbait-BUT he usually backs it up. Website is a mess. 80 bucks for an arm program? F*ck off! False promises. Not based in science, as usual. Bait and Swap. Physique (13:30) 9.5/10 He\'s definitely not 100% true about his body fat percentage, BUT he has a great physique, likely natural, at 40 years old he looks great. But not 5.8% BF. More clickbait. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4018766/ So....nearly full marks for that (would get a 10 except for lagging legs. I realize this sounds negative, and it is. I just wish that he was better, because he could be. He\'s a leader in this industry, and thus the entire industry, to a certain extent, models itself after him. Thus, if he clickbaits, everyone clickbaits, and thus it\'s really just the viewer who suffers. If he comes out with gimmicks...everyone does. It\'s an asinine arms race of absurdity that he COULD stop if he wanted. He\'s already a millionaire, so I\'m not sure why he keeps up with this. I just wish he was better, and I say this as someone who has been following him for several years. We went to the same university, and I feel like we\'d get along great in person, and none of this is personal...there\'s just a lot of bad stuff that is very hard to overlook with this channel, made all the worse due to the extremely high number of followers and views. Edit 6/11/2020 He\'s been outed as using fake weights.
