Question from Jenny [5 minutes 16 secs] Posture compensations will come up in both the Level 2 Principles Exam and he Level 3 anatomy fitness exam, so if you want to achieve top marks in your fitness exam, then you need to know this. Hyperkyphosis is a postural compensation whereby the thoracic portion of the spine is excessively flexed forwards, and scapula protracted. This could be caused by a skeletal deformation in which case it cannot be corrected by fitness alone. However, if it is a result of muscles that are used incorrectly, then this can be corrected with appropriate stretching and strengthening. In this posture the Chest Muscles are tight, so you want to incorporate Chest stretches within the programme. Also, the mid trapezius and Rhomboids are weaker, so you want to use row actions to engage the back muscles and encourage more scapula retraction.
