After enjoying clams from Alappuzha village near Grand Ayur Island, we decided go by shikkara boat to the middle of the lake. While we were sailing over the Vembanad lake, we were served with the lunch which included usual rice and curries plus duck curry, drunken fish grilled, and shrimps with Chinese potatoes. Bineesh, the chief chef, explained to us about the cooking methods of all the dishes. We could watch the preparation of a few of these dishes. Among all of them, my vote goes to the Koorkka Chemmeen curry (Chinese potatoes with shrimps). After the delicious lunch, we got into the water. It may sound surprising that there are areas with knee-deep water in the middle of Vembanad Lake. Of course, you need the help of experts for such adventures, but me and my family thoroughly enjoyed the dip in the waters.
